City to Hold Age-Friendly Communities Symposium

The City of Fredericton will hold an Age-Friendly Communities Symposium on September 11, 2014 from 9 am to 3 pm at the Fredericton Inn (Royal Stewart Room).  The public is invited to attend.  Space is limited, so register early.

“This conference will serve as an opportunity for our city to plan for the key age-related issues and concerns facing the growing population of aging individuals in our community,” said Fredericton Deputy Mayor Eric Megarity, who is also City Council’s appointee to Age-Friendly Community Committee.  “Baby Boomers are now retiring and moving into their senior years.  It is expected this surge in the senior population will transform how everyone lives.  Now is the time to prepare.”

The session will kick off with a keynote presentation by Jim Hamilton, Associate Director of the Centre on Aging at the University of Manitoba.  His presentation is entitled “The nature of people and place:  How can Fredericton become more age-friendly?”

This will be followed by two separate International Café sessions looking at a variety of topics including Players & Partnerships, Social Inclusion, Safety & Respect, and Communications & Information.
