MMFC & NBSPRN

HOLD THE DATE – MAY 25TH

Are you concerned about family and intimate partner violence? Mark the date of May 25th for a dialog on these issues. The Muriel McQueen Fergusson Centre for Family Violence Research (MMFC) and the New Brunswick Social Policy Research Network (NBSPRN) are co-hosting a conversation to increase the development and awareness of evidence-based solutions.

Are you a community organization, policy-maker or program manager with unanswered questions? Are you a researcher doing community-based research looking for research partners? Come tell us about your research interests, make new connections and build new partnerships.

The MMFC fosters a collaborative approach to family violence research between university researchers, policy makers, service providers and representatives of groups interested in the problems of family violence and violence against women. Research projects have considered various subpopulations amongst survivors and perpetrators of family violence, multiple forms of violence and abuse, a range of contextual factors, the impact of education and prevention programs in public schools, the legal and criminal justice system responses to family violence and the range of public services and informal supports available to survivors and perpetrators of family violence.

Areas identified as needing prioritization in the coming years include violence against Aboriginal women and girls, violence against people with disabilities, risk assessment and the development of risk assessment tools, influencing the curriculum in the training of teachers, human trafficking, violence amongst gender minorities, and sexual assault on university campuses.

The session will be in Fredericton on May 25th. More details will follow. Please contact Kim Wade kwade@unb.ca or Bill MacKenzie bill.mackenzie@rrps-nb-sprn.ca if you are interested in participating.
