The next Qualitative Lunch will be held on Friday, Jan. 30, 2015 (please note the change in date) at 12:30 p.m. in McCain Hall, room 306 – the Atlantic Centre for Qualitative Research and Analysis, St. Thomas University Campus.

At this time, the ACQRA is pleased to introduce Dr. Besim Can Zirh, visiting scholar with St. Thomas University’s Global and International Studies Initiative. Dr. Zirh is currently an Assistant Professor in the Sociology Department at Middle East Technical University (METU) in Ankara, Turkey.

His areas of research and interest include Transnational Social Movements, Transnational Identities, Religion and Minorities in Turkey, Anthropology of Death and Anthropology of Religion.  He received his Ph.D. in Anthropology from University College London (UCL) in London, United Kingdom.  Dr. Zirh’s Ph.D. research concerned the transnational funeral practices of the Turkish Alevi  diaspora in Europe (the Alevis are Turkey’s largest religious minority).  He has previously been a visiting researcher at Humboldt University in Berlin,  Germany, at Oslo University in Oslo, Norway, and at the University of  Ljublijana in Ljublijana, Slovenia.

Sponsored by the ACQRA, both faculty and students are invited to participate in discussions of qualitative research and share their ideas.  Please feel free to bring your lunch.  Coffee and tea will be provided.
