Qualitative Lunch with Dr. Erin Fredericks
DATE: NOV 1, 2013
TIME: 12:00 PM-1:30 PM
LOCATION: MCCAIN HALL, ROOM 306 – ACQRA, FREDERICTON, NB, CANADA
The next Qualitative Lunch will be held on Friday, November 1, 2013 at 12:00 noon in McCain Hall, room 306 – the Atlantic Centre for Qualitative Research and Analysis. Please note the change in time for this week only.
At this time, the ACQRA is pleased to introduce Dr. Erin Fredericks, Sociology Department, STU, who will be discussing her research study entitled “Talking about Breast Cancer and Doing Breast Cancer: Reflecting on the Use of Qualitative Interviews and Online Discussion.”
Erin will lead a discussion about her qualitative study of women’s experiences of breast cancer in the context of breast cancer discourse. Breast cancer discourse was taken up by participants in ways that limited the actions they could imagine and justify, and encouraged self-governance and discipline of others. In this discussion, Erin will reflect on the use of qualitative interviews and online discussion groups to generate data, focusing on the methodological issues that arise when participants interact online.
Sponsored by the ACQRA, both faculty and students are invited to participate in discussions of qualitative research and share their ideas. Please feel free to bring your lunch. Coffee and tea will be provided.
