Policy Research Network Expanding the Economic Development Discussion
The NB Social Policy Research Network is hosting a keynote and expert panel discussion on economic development policy at 5:00pm, June 12th at the Wu Centre, UNB, Fredericton
Due to the current economic climate in our province, there is a justified preoccupation with economic development; how to cause it, measure it and sustain it. The New Brunswick Social Policy Research Network (NBSPRN) wishes to contribute to this discourse by creating an opportunity for economic development partners to come together to consider the various policy research elements required to ensure optimal economic development decision-making.
“We wanted to provide a space for multiple stakeholders to explore a variety of perspectives on economic development, and make connections that will strengthen economic policy on all levels and sectors” says Nick Scott, managing director of the network.
Guest speaker Dr. Michael Shute will deliver a lecture entitled, “A Two-Circuit Approach to Economic Development?” followed by a a panel discussion addressing the topic, “What is good Economic Development policy?” On the panel will be representatives from the business sector, academia, government and community, and moderated by Nancy Mathis, executive director of the Wallace McCain Institute.
“NBSPRN takes an integrated approach to policy. The implications of economic or social policy are not isolated, therefore their development and the discourse around them shouldn’t be either.” said Scott.
About NBSPRN
The NBSPRN was established August 2010 by Hon. Andy Scott with support from the provincial government, and four provincially-funded universities. NBSPRN is committed to New Brunswick becoming a leader in evidence-based public policy development. It supports this vision by bridging the gap between those making decisions, those conducting the research, non-governmental organizations and New Brunswick citizens.
