Two Université de Moncton Researchers Join the Social Enterprise Investment Funds Advisory Board
The New Brunswick Social Policy Research Network is proud to announce that two Université de Moncton researchers, Mr. Leyla Sall of the Department of Sociology and Ms. Julie Caissie, PhD student with the Faculty of Education and holder of a research excellence grant from the Fondation Baxter & Alma Ricard, will be joining the Social Enterprise and Community Investment Funds Advisory Committee.
The Social Enterprise and Community Investment Funds Advisory Committee was created by the New Brunswick Economic and Social Inclusion Corporation (ESIC) to implement the New Brunswick poverty reduction plan, Overcoming Poverty Together, and to ensure the implementation of poverty reduction initiatives at the community level.
In the plan, entitled Overcoming Poverty Together, it is deemed that social enterprises and community investments are among the most promising vectors for helping New Brunswickers deal with the many problems related to poverty and for encouraging economic growth. As such, the Advisory Committee for Social Enterprise and Community Investment Funds was formed. Its mandate is to develop a strategic framework for supporting social innovation. The Committee is made up of representatives of the New Brunswick Economic and Social Inclusion Corporation and professionals from a variety of organizations (non-profits and businesses) from across the province.
The ESIC is also initiating a series of twelve public dialogue sessions throughout the province. The results of these sessions will lead to the development of a second plan for reducing poverty in New Brunswick. All citizens are invited to take part in these meetings. For further information or to find out about the public dialogue schedule, please visit their website or call 1-888-295-4545.
