UNB grants National Chief Shawn Atleo and the Rt. Hon. Paul Martin honorary degrees, installs Allison McCain as new chancellor
The University of New Brunswick conferred honorary degrees to National Chief Shawn Atleo and the Right Honourable Paul Martin at its 59th fall convocation ceremony in Fredericton Thursday evening.
UNB Fredericton awarded diplomas to 441 students at its fall 2013 convocation ceremony at the Richard J. CURRIE CENTER. Dr. Erik Scheme was awarded the Governor General’s Gold Medal in academic excellence – the most prestigious award that students in Canadian schools can receive.
The university also installed noted business leader Allison McCain as its sixth modern day chancellor. McCain replaces Richard J. Currie, who was granted the rare chancellor emeritus designation in May.
“Allison McCain is no stranger to UNB. He is a friend, an alumnus, a volunteer, and an honorary degree recipient,” said Dr. Eddy Campbell, UNB president and vice-chancellor.
“Allison has a reputation for being a gifted leader and an empathetic manager. The reputation is well deserved. He has long been recognized – both nationally and internationally – as a person of vision and great integrity.”
