ACQRA 8th Annual Qualitative Lecture and Workshop
The Atlantic Centre for Qualitative Research and Analysis is pleased to announce the 8th Annual Qualitative Lecture and Workshop to be held on Friday and Saturday, October 3rd and 4th, 2014. The keynote speaker and workshop presenter is Dr. Dorothy Pawluch from McMaster University. Dr. Pawluch’s public lecture on Friday, From Sin to Sickness: Shifting Ideas About Being Different, focuses on how society labels people who are deviant or different. She will discuss how behaviours once seen as sins, crimes or personal shortcomings are now seen as sicknesses requiring medical treatment. Her Saturday, academic workshop, Where to Stand: The Dilemma of Positionality for Qualitative Researchers, reflects on the issue of positionality in qualitative research, particularly in light of trends in scholarship towards poststructualism, standpoint theory, critical feminist theory and public sociology.
The Friday lecture is open to the public and free of charge. Pre-registrationis required for the Saturday, academic workshop.
