New Brunswick Policy Research Forum – Call for Submissions


The New Brunswick Social Policy Research Network is Proud to Announce the 2016 NB Policy Research Forum

The New Brunswick Social Policy Research Network (NBSPRN) invites you to submit an abstract to the 2016 NB Policy Research Forum that will be held in Saint John, NB on April 29, 2016. Hosted in partnership by NBSPRN, the Government of New Brunswick’s Department of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour and the New Brunswick Institute for Research, Data and Training (NB-IRDT), the Forum will be an important occasion to highlight applied research and showcase collaborative models of evidence-based policy development.

Selection Criteria

Abstracts will be selected based on their relevance to the areas of social and economic policy in New Brunswick, this year with a particular focus on:

1)Higher education.

2) Literacy.

3) Training and career development.

4) Employment and skills development.

5) Trades and workforce development.

6) Population growth.

7) Adult learning.

8) Immigration (recruitment and retention).

Abstracts can report on completed work (research/projects/policy reports/ case studies) or works in progress.

Submissions from community organizations, government departments, the business and private sector and from academic and non-academic researchers are welcomed. Due to the nature of the Forum, the submissions will not be subject to peer review, but will be reviewed by the Forum’s organizing committee.

Three types of contributions will be considered:

1)Lightning talk presentation (5-7 minute presentation).

2) Poster presentation (37″ by 41″ poster).

3) PechaKucha (20 slides, 20 seconds per slide).

Publication and Networking Opportunities

The selected abstracts will be featured as part of the pre-conference materials and will be showcased on the Forum website, uploaded to the NBSPRN Research Catalogue and will be promoted and used by the NBSPRN to facilitate further collaborative research opportunities. Selected authors will be asked to present at the Forum. Those proposing a presentation will be invited to give a lightning talk (5-7 minutes). Those proposing a poster will be asked to prepare their full poster for the Forum.

*All presenters must register for the Forum, costs are not covered (registration and payment can be made after acceptance notification has been received).

The Forum will be attended by senior policymakers, civil servants, researchers, and administrative representatives from the province’s four universities, community colleges, community organizations as well as engaged citizens.

Submission Guidelines

Abstract submission deadline: February 15, 2016    

Notification to authors: February 26, 2016

Please prepare your submission using the following format:

1)Cover page including:

a. Your name and contact information including your affiliation and the name of your research team.

b. The title of the submitted work.

c. Whether your presentation/poster fits within one of the proposed themes listed in the “selection criteria”.

d. Please indicate whether your work will be submitted as a lightning talk presentation, pechakucha or a poster.

2) An abstract/summary of the work (250 word maximum).

Please email both the cover page and the abstract as an MS Word attachment with the subject line: “Abstract – 2016 NB Policy Research Forum” to sasha.wood@rrps-nb-sprn.ca by February 15, 2016.
