Provincial Strategy for the Prevention of Harm to Children and Youth
You are invited to collaborate on the development of a Provincial Strategy for the Prevention of Harm to Children and Youth.
The participants at this second NGO forum will discuss how, through collaboration, we can better prevent identified harms occurring to children and youth in New Brunswick. These harms were identified as priority areas by the Provincial Strategy for the Prevention of Harm to Children and Youth Roundtable at their second meeting. The focus will be on leveraging existing capacity and coordinating efforts to address the identified priority areas.
This forum will be held on April 29th 2015 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm at the Beaverbrook Kin Centre, 100 Newcastle Blvd in Miramichi, E1V 3M2.
If you would be interested in participating, please contact Benoit Locas at Benoit.locas@gnb.ca (506) 444-3439. Participation will be selected on a first come basis, with a certain number of spots reserved for each geographic region of the province. Lunch will be provided.
As we would like to ensure as broad a representation as possible from Civil Society at this event please feel free to share this invitation through your networks and encourage other child and youth serving agencies to attend.
The Office of the Child and Youth Advocate, in partnership with Government, Champions for Children and other community groups, has launched a public engagement process for the development of a Provincial Strategy to Prevent Harm to Children and Youth. The launch of the process coincided with Child Rights Education Week, a week to celebrate children’s rights held during the week of November 20th: the United Nation’s Universal Children’s Day. A completed strategy will be released during Child Rights Education Week in November of 2015.
Article 19 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child requires parties to take all appropriate measures to protect children from harm. The launch of this strategy development process is intended to put in place a plan to honour this obligation.
