GovMaker Challenge

The Idea

The GovMaker Conference is challenging New Brunswickers to pitch their ideas – challenges that they see as the province’s most pressing policy priorities.

The challenges, pitched as 1-minute videos, will be loaded to the NBSPRN YouTube Channel where users will be invited to vote for their top priorities. The top five challenges will be featured at the GovMaker Conference and RebootNB: A Civic Hackathon. The winners will also be invited to attend the conference and hackathon free of charge!

On November 24th and 25th, the New Brunswick Social Policy Research Network is hosting the GovMaker Conference, a two-day conference exploring the value of open data and open government. Day 2 of the conference will focus exclusively on the citizen’s role as a GovMaker.  Interactive workshops led by the MaRS Solutions Lab throughout the afternoon will help participants apply open government methods to solve the top 5 challenges voted and submitted by New Brunswickers.

Challenges can be used as a way to seek out multiple innovative and cost-effective approaches or improvements to ideas, services, products, and processes and have the benefit of tapping into innovation from unexpected people and places.

 Call to Action

Open government is founded on the principles of greater transparency, participation, and collaboration. As Barrack Obama said in his Open Government Directive: “The challenges we face today – from saving our planet to ending poverty – are simply too big for government to solve alone. We need all hands on deck.”

Pitch your challenge and vote!  Fulfill your role as a GovMaker and join the Government of New Brunswick and the NB Social Policy Research Network in becoming the most innovative, open government in Canada!!
